Day 2 (07/10) - Harrison to Cache Creek, BC

Pleasant Surprises Everyday

Coming to Harrison was not in my mind when I left home yesterday. But the "Harrison Hot Springs" signposts along the highway looked so inviting. I thought it might not be a bad idea to see if I would feel comfortable taking an unplanned side trip. I stayed here at Harrison's campground last night and came out to explore the city this morning.

Downtown's indoor public pool did not look that interesting to me. I knew there would be other hot springs in the nature setting later on the trip. I passed this one by. While strolling along the beautiful Harrison sand beach, I ran into to a fenced beach showroom that housed the participating artworks of the recent sand sculpture tournament. I was amazed by the creativity and elegance of these sculptures. What a pleasant surprise!! Harrison calls itself "the sand sculpture capital of the world". It indeed lives up to this reputation.

I had the feeling this would be a very interesting trip full of surprises.

Harrison is a hot spring resort town accessible via Canada's Highway 7 from Highway 1. It is a small town I am glad I take the side trip to visit.

The town calls itself "the sand sculpture capital of the world". Harrison sponsors World Championships of Sand Sculpture and other tournaments every summer.

Beautiful Harrison Water Front.
